    • Ensure those you choose as references know you're providing them as References beforehand.

    • Determine what they will say about you to ensure it will be positive - consider helping them with what to say.

    • Be selective with who you provide, ensuring they give a good impression of themselves.

    • Don't forget to thank them for agreeing to provide you with a good reference.

Accomplishments should be included and have the following elements: 

  • Quantifiable Achievements - For example, "Increased sales by 20% in 6 months".
  • Relevant to Job (if possible) - Experience that aligns with requirements of the job.
  • Relevant to Employer (if possible) - Experience that aligns with company's mission / values.
  • Include Action Words - Some examples are: Achieved, Led, Improved, Implemented, Developed.
  • Provide Context & Scope - Ensure accomplishments have context, like what problem did they solve, how serious were the problems.
  • Results-Oriented - Rather than focusing on tasks and responsibilities, the focus should be on results, impact and any value you've delivered.
  • Honesty & Accuracy - Last but NOT least don't exaggerate and ensure you're able to credibly & confidently talk about any claims you make.
